I’ll post here a few odds and ends of advice, sayings, quotes etc. that have helped me through the dark times. I might paraphrase some to remove the weird misogyny out of them, but such is the way of old philosophers. Any emphasis has been placed by me.

A few from my old pal Marcus Aurelius, who aside from being enamored with the Roman ideal of masculinity, which is unsurprising. Has quite a depth of character when it comes to virtue, self doubt, and living your best life. Things I think a lot of Trans people struggle with. I know I do.

“Perfection of character is this: to live each day as if it were your last, without frenzy, without apathy, without pretense.”

“It is wholly possible to become a ‘Divine Person’ without anyone’s recognition.”

“No, you do not have thousands of years to live. Urgency is on you. While you live, while you can, become good.”

Transition is hard, but you’re not the sum of your parts. I find the above quotes, among others give me focus when I find myself being bogged down in the minutia. Do right by yourself, do right by others, do right by the gods (or universe if you prefer.)

Don’t let yourself be so focused on what is directly behind and in front of you. Transition is a life time event but its nature changes dramatically. You’ll likely have a lot of life to be lived fully into your transition. Don’t make short sighted decisions that remove your chances of a happy life later.
